1997 Land Rover Defender 110 CSW 300Tdi Diesel Engine plus 2004 Penman Wide Track Military Trailer with Hannibal 2.4m Roof Tent. Currently 168,946 miles on the clock. My wife and I have owned “Leon” since 2009 when he was bought as transport for our chalet business in the French Alps, a four storey Savoyard farmhouse. Leon was our transport during the renovations and afterwards it became the main transport for our guests to access the nearby ski resort of Meribel. After our return to the UK in July 2019, ‘Leon’ was given a major makeover the following year, which included a new, galvanised chassis, new suspension, replacement of brake discs and pads plus other summary underside replacements. Thereafter, we invested in transforming him into a Campervan adding new pieces of kit year on year; most notably an interior sink unit, rear door fold up cooker shelf, bespoke fold up bed base/storage and dual battery system. Initially, ‘Leon’ carried the Hannibal Roof tent on his full length, galvanised roof rack. Eventually, age (I am 72) suggested mounting on a trailer would be more convenient. To this end we bought a 2004, ex M.O.D., Penman military trailer in almost new condition and towed that using the appropriate NATO hitch. For those in the know, such trailers were designed and built to be towed behind the military version of ‘Leon’ and it tows like a dream. Numerous trips in this country and France can attest to that. Alas, the time as now come for me, in particular, to acknowledge that further and longer adventures abroad need to be done in something more accommodating of my age; hence the sale. In order to customise “Leon” for my wife and I it was necessary to remove all but the front two seats in order to install the custom made, folding bed platform/storage. My wife uses this with an extremely thick and comfortable folding mattress. I am exiled to the roof tent as a penalty of my snoring. I do not object because I have the more spacious and equally comfortable option. We also added a full length side awing and, on the other side, a fold out cubicle which adds privacy for use as a changing room, shower or toilet. The space in the trailer underneath the tent accommodates all the camping gear and more. So, it is now time to pass the baton to someone who equally shares the same love of travel and passion for adventure in something as individual as ‘Leon’ et al. He has been serviced annually despite doing less than 3000 miles p.a. The last service and M.O.T. was done by a local garage that services the surrounding agricultural area and is very familiar with LR’s. Prior to that I did the annual service for the past four years including complete change of oil, oil filter, air filter and fuel filter. There is also an encyclopaedia of invoices charting the work and services that have been done over the years. When we ran the chalet we spared no cost in looking after ‘Leon’ as our business depended on it. There are aspects of the bodywork that I have not prioritised and do need attention, mainly because I did not want it to be too attractive to prospective thieves. I will, however, mention some of the major replacements that were done during the makeover a few years ago and since. On all of our recreational trips, “Leon” draws a crowd so don’t miss out on this opportunity to purchase this unique rig. If you love LR’s, the great outdoors and have a spirit of adventure, this is the set up for you. Or you could just buy a VW Campervan like everyone else for twice the price! The existing MOT expires on September 1st 2025 PAYMENT BY BANK TRANSFER OR PAYPAL. NO CASH ON COLLECTION.
