This is a very rare Stage 1 V8 Land Rover LWB, which was converted for an expedition I took across Africa in the 1990’s. It is a solid, well maintained vehicle and is sold with lots of spares. It is fitted with twin fuel tanks, twin fuel pumps, twin batteries, 2 spare wheels and a safari roof and roof rack. The vehicle is still fitted out for expedition use and would be ideal for anyone contemplating taking an adventure into Africa or elsewhere, or it can be used as a daily workhorse or just a fun weekend vehicle.
The vehicle is 42 years old and is now registered as an historic vehicle, road tax is zero and it does not require an MOT, however this vehicle has been regularly MOT’d and comes with a full MOT which expires in February 2026. The engine was rebuilt just a few years ago, bearings, piston rings and cylinder heads were replaced, the cylinder bores showed no signs of wear. The camshaft, cam followers and timing chain were replaced around 20 years ago. The gearbox is ok, these LT95 gearboxes are virtually bomb proof, I also have a good spare that only needs a 2nd gear syncro hub. The front axle is good, the rear has a fair bit of backlash indicating some wear in the diff, the rear prop is new.
This vehicle would suit a Series 3 enthusiast who knows and understands these vehicles and can continue to maintain it and keep it in good running order as I have done for the last 33 years. I bought this vehicle in around 1992, initially it was registered to my now wife and transferred into my name in 2002.
